Introduction to the principle of current method
The double electrodes immersed in the electrolyte are in contact with the liquid through the membrane. The dual electrodes are a platinum working electrode and a silver-coated counter or reference electrode. Chlorine compounds in the medium diffuse through the membrane. A constant polarization voltage between the two electrodes triggers an electrochemical reaction of the chlorine compound on the working electrode. The current is proportional to the total chlorine concentration over the sensor's operating range and is virtually independent of pH.
