However, high concentrations of chloride ions may have a negative impact on human health. High concentrations of chloride ions may interact with organic matter to produce carcinogens and have adverse effects on human liver and kidneys. High concentrations of chloride ions may cause dry, itchy, and sensitive skin.
The national standard methods for the determination of chloride in drinking water are silver nitrate titration and mercury nitrate titration. The silver nitrate titration method is simple to operate, but the end point is not obvious, and the mercury nitrate titration method has a sharp end point, but the determination should be strictly controlled. In practical applications, it is necessary to continuously monitor the content of chloride ions in the water quality in real time, so the ion selection method is used. The ion-selective electrode is an electrochemical sensitive element based on potential response. When it is inserted into the liquid to be tested, a specific potential response value will be generated on the membrane-liquid interface. The relationship between potential and ion activity can be described by the nernst equation.
