Measuring wastewater turbidity is a critical component of wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring, and water quality management. By quantifying wastewater turbidity, it indirectly assesses water quality, guides treatment process optimization, and protects the ecological environment and human health. Turbidity is essentially the ability of wastewater to scatter and absorb light. The turbidity value directly reflects the content of suspended particulate matter(SS), colloids, microorganisms, or attached pollutants in the wastewater. These substances are often carriers or direct sources of water pollution. Therefore, turbidity has become a simple yet effective indicator for assessing the extent of wastewater pollution and treatment effectiveness. The core principle is that higher turbidity indicates greater light scattering by particulate matter. The turbidity level can be inferred from intensity of the turbidity scattered light, in line with the definition of turbidity in international standard ISO7027.
